Mission Statement:
The mission of Sigma Mu Delta is to unify pre-medical students in a brotherhood dedicated to academic excellence. Sigma Mu Delta’s foundation is based on the principles of Brotherhood, Education, and Dedication. The Fraternity provides a motivational and inspirational atmosphere to promote maturity.
Our Three Cardinal Principles:
BROTHERHOOD: ”Prevailing Together” is our motto because we believe that a difficult journey needs not be made alone. On a university campus where one out of five students is a Biological Science major, we aim to bring together pre-health undergrads in an environment outside of large, impersonal lecture halls. Through our community services and social events, we hope to create supporting links that will enable each active brothers to reach his fullest potential. The Fraternity’s traditional Big Bro / Little Bro program is one among many of such links.
EDUCATION: The second cardinal principle of Sigma Mu Delta is Education. While the Fraternity is not an Honors Society, and our doors are open to all men who seek to better themselves, we do maintain high expectations on academic progress. While mandating that pledges must attend at least 9 hours of supervised study hours each week, active brothers must satisfy GPA and other academic requirements in order to remain on active status. Difficulties with academic subjects often mean assignment of tutors and mandatory library hours.
DEDICATION: By volunteering our time at events like the Healthy Aging Summits, the Heart Beat Run, and working at the Davis Community Meals and Resource Center, we hope to make our presence felt throughout the community. On Campus, we often work with the Health Science Advising Office and Kappa Gamma Delta, our sister sorority, to help promote health-related symposiums like the MCAT Panel. Other yearly events that we take a part of on campus include the Activities Faire, Health Awareness Week, and Picnic Day.
The Sigma Mu Delta Brother’s Creed: I am a brother of Sigma Mu Delta.I believe in Brotherhood. I depend on my brothers, but most of all, my
brothers depend on me. I always place my brothers before myself,
because we do not prevail as individuals – we prevail together.
I believe in Education. I know of no boundaries to my educational growth.
I will always do my best to strive for academic excellence, for this is
expected of me as a future health professional.
I believe in Dedication. I am dedicated to achieving my goals; lack of
motivation is my greatest enemy. I will also dedicate myself to serve the
needs of others with true compassion.
